Period 5
Unit 4 Reflection
This unit was all about the Integumentary system and the Immune system. These systems defend our bodies from invaders, such as bacteria and viruses. Essential understandings include how important the skin is, how different systems work together to keep the body healthy, how there are many different methods the body uses to maintain healthy, and what cancer is. This unit was slightly different than previous units. The learning process was mainly through notes and readings. There weren't as many labs or demonstrations. Also, we had the debates going on at the same time. The trials weren't as distracting or time consuming as i thought they would be, so we were still able to focus on learning about defending the body. I like when we do labs but I also understand that it's sort of difficult to perform a lab in this unit.
I definitely learned a lot of new things about the body. I knew the skin was important obviously, but there's so much more that it does that I never knew. And with the immune system I knew it fought off germs, but I didn't know how it attacked and how important it is.
I liked the debates a lot and were definitely different than how we debate in history class. In there it is basically an organized argument. But the debates we did for this class were much more structured and peaceful, as well as interesting topics where there wasn't a clear answer. I am curious if changes will happen to our current organ system.
