Health Reflection
Health is the overall wellbeing of one's physical and mental self. I feel as though I am relatively healthy, but could definitely improve. I work out plenty and talk with lots of friends, but my diet and sleep schedule could certainly get better. I get stressed sometimes, but can usually manage it. However, I think stress is one of the biggest issues here at Saratoga High. Students are generally fit and somewhat nutritious, but the stress can be so great that it even affects our sleep or social abilities. I think just continuing to bring awareness to it will help. The themes were that health isn't just eating right and exercising, it is actually a system of five different components that all have to balance each other; sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress, and social interaction. I learned a lot this unit. The average teenager should be getting about nine hours of sleep a night, in our society we eat way too many carbs, and hanging out with friends and relaxing is just as important as cardio. I still get some of all the different hormones mixed up and what they do. Next unit I will make sure to not miss anything when we are writing down notes. A real world application could be how when we are sleep deprived we can feel drowsy or cloudy. I definitely frequently experience so I definitely need to get more sleep. Some of my goals are to try and get at least eight hours of sleep per night, and eventually move up to nine. I can do this by not procrastinating on my homework and not using my phone and computer in bed. I also am going to cut out soda from my diet. I've done this before so it shouldn't be challenging.
