Blood Pressure Lab
.) The systole is the point where the heart is contracting so it is pumping blood through our blood vessels. Diastole is the relaxation point where the heart stops contracting.
.) To measure heart rate we used our fingers to feel our veins. To help us hear better we can use a stethoscope. To measure blood pressure we used a blood pressure cuff and stethoscope.
.) Sometimes a pulse can be too faint to feel with just our thumb. Also we can miscount.
.) First you strap the cuff on your bicep with the cords going down. Then put the stethoscope under the cuff right above your elbow. Push the pump until the meter goes to about 150 then slowly release the valve. When you start to hear your heartbeat, that's the systole number. When you can't hear the heartbeat anymore, that's the diastole number.
